This article is a quote tweet of an amazing article written by Lucas highlighting the obvious power and necessity of onchain media (which you should read first)
Over two and a half years ago, I published my very first podcast episodes on Tezos At the time, there was only way to monetize my podcast, and that was by shilling some cheap pair of socks for $10 which made absolutely 0 sense for my audience.
Due to .rss technology being very limited and every platform tracking metrics differently, the only actual stats that truly means anything to advertisers are “downloads” which is INSANELY limited and you have no idea who is listening I priced the nfts cheap, mostly to test the idea because I hadn’t seen it done before. To my surprise they sold out instantly with many of my friends showing up to collect them
This felt massive for a few reasons:
I could see the people supporting my content
Ownership implied a deeper resonance
I could reward holders directly (which i did)
I made more than $10 per episode and felt really good about it
Due to me being very early, wildly insecure, and unsure of where to go next, I didn’t pursue it further. What I didn’t know was that this idea would come in handy years down the road I started noticing platforms like Pods and Zora really start to champion this belief! I got hyped and pitched the idea to the SHILLR team to get the ball rolling For our 3rd season of media, we not only brought the CURAT3D pod onchain via Pods, but we also tokenized our artist interviews on Zora! ✨
Today, the vision is so much more clear, and I can’t wait to see where it all goes While the traditional platforms play an important role in hosting & distribution, creators can now unlock new ways of not only monetizing their craft, but building tighter and more aligned communities that ultimately benefit everyone involved.
We’ve seen the tokenization of collectibles and art, now it’s content’s turn
LFG 🔥
